820th Hospital Center

Description

A silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inch (3.18cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, issuant from base a demi-sun in splendor throughout Argent, surmounted in base by a cross Sanguine, a chief arched Argent (Silver), bearing a stylized representation of the Golden Gate Bridge of the third.  Attached to the sides and top of the shield, three silver scrolls inscribed “STRONG”, “READY”, and “UNITED” in Blue.  Attached to the base of the shield, between the scrolls, is a silver fleur-de-lis.

Symbolism

The sun is a symbol commonly used to denote California, the home of the 820TH Hospital Center.  The white color invokes the concept of purity and sterility.  Surmounting the sun is a Maroon cross denoting the unit’s function as a medical organization and association to AMEDD.  The bridge refers to the center’s history of being activated and deactivated at The Presidio next to the Golden Gate Bridge. The blue area on the shield functions as both the water underneath the bridge as well the sky behind the sun, conveying the varied domains the unit can function in, as well as the type of operations it can support.  Below the shield, between the two lower scrolls, is a fleur-de-lis representing the unit’s history in France during World War II.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia for the 820th Hospital Center was approved on 19 February 2021
